History

The beginnings of this exciting and innovative school go back to the year 1912. At this time the Dominican Sisters of St Rose Convent in Stroud realised that there was a need in this area for schools to educate the young people who were unable to access mainstream schools. At that time there were very few schools in the UK educating children with special needs.

There had already been some evidence of the need for such a school and it happened that the house adjoining the convent became vacant. The Sisters bought this house and after considerable renovation it was made ready to receive children. It was not long before the first child came, a girl with cerebral palsy, and so the School was officially recognised by the Board of Education on April 1912.

By the end of the year there were seven pupils and the school continued to flourish for almost a hundred years as you will see as you navigate our website.
