Scouting

The world of scouting brings many adventurous indoor and outdoor activities to young people. By running weekly Scout and Explorer Scout Troops our students are able to enjoy and partake in many of the same activities.
Recent activities have included ‘Ready Steady Cook’ with scouts from the local community, Peace Light Ceremony, Tent Erecting Skills and Interviewing Local People. We aim to complete at least one badge per term.
With our in house qualified Scout Troop Leader Nicki, young people aged 10 – 19 develop their team, cooperation and problem solving skills. Scouting expands their knowledge beyond school life, promotes independence and self-worth.
We hold an annual Scout Camp under canvas, here in our beautiful grounds. Every scout and explorer can take part in this event irrespective of disability. It brings the enjoyment of camping to our young people with games, toasting marshmallows and singing round the campfire and like all young people, more laughing than sleeping generally takes place!

Boccia (pronounced Botcha)

St Rose’s has a long tradition of entering teams into both local and national Boccia competitions. It has been a Paralympic sport since 1984.
The aim of the sport is to propel balls so they finish as close as possible to a special white target ball, known as the ‘jack’. Each player, pair or team gets six balls on each end. At the close of each end, the athlete, pair or team whose ball is closest to the jack scores one point, and receives an additional point for every ball that sits closer to the jack than the opposition’s closest ball.

Boccia is played by wheelchair athletes with cerebral palsy and related locomotor conditions, with players required to be in a seated position within a throwing box at one end of the playing court. The classification system ensures an even playing field for athletes to compete against others with similar disabilities.

"The curriculum is enriched by the popular after school clubs and regular outings in the local community."
