Aquatic therapy

The investment in a state of the art hydrotherapy pool with sensory lighting and sound system has ensured that St Rose’s remains a centre of excellence for children and young people with physical disabilities.
“If a barrier to learning can be addressed, we will address it” Wendy Newby, Curriculum Coordinator
A child that is experiencing pain or discomfort is not free to learn. Research shows that having aqua therapy promotes a positive attitude to learning.  Each child has a regular session in the pool with our qualified physiotherapists. For relaxation of muscle tone and for lessening pain the water temperature is maintained at 33°C.
By using the floating switches, choices about projections, lighting and music can be made by our young people when they are in the pool.
Additionally, the pool has been designed to ensure the comfort, safety and dignity of each user. An electric overhead hoist is in place to move each child directly from the changing room into the warm water. It is a space to be free from wheelchairs and splints.
We can offer all pupils aquatic therapy, irrespective of their age, cognitive or physical ability.

“Aquatherapy is fun, inclusive and enabling.”
